Paper Recycling Guidelines

Remove paper clips. Staples and small amounts of tape are OK. Place shredded paper in plastic bags next to recycling bin.

ACCEPTABLE PAPER

Office paper (any color except fluorescent bond, photocopy, printer/laser, notebook, legal, fax, plotter); shredded is OK if placed in plastic bag next to recycling bin
Envelopes (labels and windows OK)
White, pastel, interoffice (NO brown)
NO Tyvek (reinforced-fiber) or padded
Magazines and catalogs
Newspaper and inserts
Brochures
Telephone books
Post-itTM notes
Junk mail (unopened OK)
Paperback books
Soft cover computer manuals
Hardcover books (with covers removed)
Manila file folders
White/pastel packing paper (NO tissue)
White boxboard or card stock (NO tan/gray corrugated or cereal-type boxes)


UNACCEPTABLE MATERIALS

NO Plastic, transparencies, or photographs
NO Metal spiral or plastic ring bindings
NO Candy wrappers or chip bags
NO Pizza boxes or other food containers
NO Soft drink or beer cartons
NO Paper bags or other brown paper
NO Corrugated (no matter how thin!) or tan/ gray cereal-type cardboard of any kind
NO Gray paperboard, boxboard, egg cartons
NO Brown envelopes w/string closures
NO Dark-colored accordion files
NO Dark-colored hanging files
NO Carbon paper (carbonless is OK)
NO Wax paper
NO Paper towels, napkins, or tissue paper
NO Hardcover books (unless covers are removed)
NO Paper ream wrappers (most are either plastic coated or tan inside)
NO Brightly colored (fluorescent) paper
