James Hammill |
His talk will
be entitled THE WOLF IS AT THE DOOR,
NOW WHAT?
In this talk, he will briefly describe the expansion of wolves
in the upper midwest since the first Earth Day celebration,
describe the protections given under the endangered species act
and discuss what options may be available IF wolves are delisted,
which is what is being proposed by the USF&WS. He will try to
bring in as much real world experience with wolves that he can
in the talk.
Jim retired from the Michigan Dept of Natural Resources in
November of 2002 after serving 30 years as a wildlife biologist
for MDNR. In the last 10 years of his work, he had the
opportunity to work directly with the recovering wolf population
of the UP, serve on the Mich wolf recovery team, and the federal
wolf recovery team (on which he still serves). He has started a
consulting business called Iron Range Consulting and Services
Inc. Their main focus is to provide private landowners with
timber management and wildlife management recommendations. He
has also contracted with the National Wildlife Federation to try
to locate wolves in the Northeastern US. |
